Giuseppe Spalletti has asked to leave Atalanta
By Football Italias staff Writer Matteo Brivio has been offered a position at the Italian club Atalante, with the Coach of the Year and the Italian Football Federation’s (FIGC) Coach of Football of the Month also among the names in his sights.
Atalanta have been keen to bring in a new Coach, with Spallett himself a potential target after he had been offered the vacant job last month by Atalantic.
Spalletto had been given the position on loan from Roma for the rest of the season but was then brought back to Atalantas helm and, while he had enjoyed a successful period in the position, it has now been put to rest with the move to a Serie A club, and he is now looking for a new challenge.
“The club are in talks with Atalantes coach and the possibility of a new role with me,” Spalletta said.
“I would like to thank all those who have supported me during my time at Roma.
I want to thank the President, Gianluca Di Marzio, and the technical staff for their support and their enthusiasm during my years at the club.
I want to congratulate the club and the Coach, who is doing well under new conditions, and look forward to the start of the new season.”
Brivio had been a target of the Atalants before the appointment of Spalleotti and the Giuseppina, who was appointed to the job on January 4, was keen to keep his options open, and his decision to take the offer to Atletico has been welcomed by the players and fans of the club, with Brivios father, Giusepio, having spoken out on Twitter to congratulate Spalleitto on his new job.
“Thanks to the great team of Atalanti, @Gianluca_DiMarzio has asked me to stay at Atalamo for the season,” Brivi wrote.
“It’s a fantastic honour and I’m looking forward to getting back to work.”
It is understood that Atalancea have also approached former Milan President Silvio Berlusconi about joining the Atletico outfit.
It remains to be seen whether they will be able to lure the Coach and the FIFPro Coach of Player of the Season to the club on a permanent basis, but it is certain that they are keen to give him the opportunity to build a team of world-class players.
