How to Choose a Wedding Dress from Wedding Dress Rentals
Wedding dress rentals are increasingly becoming more and more common in the United States, and this year, the trend is expected to continue.
The trend is in full swing and we’re already seeing wedding dresses trend on social media.
“We’re seeing it more and we have it in our heads that there are some great wedding dresses to choose from,” says Stephanie Gossman, a wedding planner at Weddings, Brides and Bridesmaids in Portland, Maine.
We’re in the midst of a wedding season where the number of wedding dresses sold is growing quickly, and the demand is high.
“We saw a lot of demand for brides dress this year,” Gossmann says.
Wedding dresses are one of the most popular purchases for many couples.
They come in all sizes and shapes and can range from formal to casual, with the majority of brides wanting something that looks great for the occasion.
“The dresses can be pretty expensive, so you’re going to want to go with a dress that is a little more of a statement,” says Gossmans partner, Melissa C. Covington.
She advises women to choose the best dress for the amount of time you plan on spending at the wedding.
“When you’re in your 30s, 50s, 60s, and 70s, you’re probably not going to spend a lot on wedding dresses,” she says.
“So, a little bit of style is good.”
For a dress to be more timeless, Gosson says it needs to be durable and comfortable.
It’s important to choose a dress with a classic design that can be worn for a long time.
“I think the best wedding dresses are going to be those that you wear forever,” she adds.
Women tend to look for a gown with the right amount of coverage and that’s why Gossons favorites are chiffon or ivory.
“If you’re a brides mom, you might want a dress like the one from Gwyneth Paltrow,” she notes.
In contrast, women might also want a light, feminine dress that’s not too formal.
“Women don’t want to look like they’re wearing something that is too formal,” she suggests.
If you don’t plan on wearing a dress too long, you can opt for something like a dress from Stella McCartney, which has a lace overlay that looks like a princess dress.
“A lot of the wedding dresses we see are just the right length and it’s a little too long for some brides,” says Covingons wedding planner, Sarah Hensley.
But not all dresses are created equal, and not all wedding dresses can easily be changed.
“Some brides are very specific about the size of their wedding dress,” says Hensleys dress specialist, Lisa Johnson.
“They like a long dress and want a bit of movement, which makes sense for them,” she explains.
“Other brides will be more flexible with their wedding dresses.”
For a bridal wedding dress to have the best chance of being a success, Gollons recommends using a dressmaker who specializes in bridal gowns.
“She might make a dress for you that is exactly the right size and will be a great choice for a wedding,” she advises.
And if you don`t want to spend any more than $500, you should also check out a bris dress shop that specializes in gowns for bridal showers, which are a popular trend for the wedding season.
“Bris is the perfect option for wedding dresses because it’s designed for a different size, and it has an extra-long length,” she offers.
To see if your brides wedding dress will be the right fit, ask your dressmaker if it has any stretch or is made of fabric that has a softer feel.
You can also find wedding dress fittings at most department stores.
Once you have a wedding dress in hand, you may want to consider what accessories you will need.
“My advice is that if you’re thinking of going to a bridgeto, you want to get something that doesn’t require a lot,” says Johnson.
While you may not want to wear the same wedding dress twice, you will definitely want to have some accessories on hand to look beautiful with it.
“You should always bring your bridal jewelry,” says Dr. Michael L. Cappelli, a dress stylist and expert in wedding dresses.
“It’s a very important accessory, so we will want to be sure it’s the right one,” he adds.
